Iguassu Falls Featured in ABC Network’s Good Morning Washington Series

Throughout October, Iguassu Falls will be in the spotlight in the United States thanks to a series of reports on Good Morning Washington, an ABC network program. The first live broadcast, with Iguassu Falls as the backdrop, aired on Tuesday (Oct 8) to announce the launch of the series, which will begin airing on Monday, October 14. This groundbreaking initiative is the result of efforts in 2024 by Foz do Iguassu’s Integrated Tourism Management, which pools resources from institutions including COMTUR, the Iguassu Falls Municipal Tourism Department, Itaipu Binacional, Itaipu Parquetec, Visit Iguassu, and Fundo Iguassu. The project was carried out in partnership with Global Vision Access (GVA), which represents Iguassu in the U.S. and Canada, with the goal of boosting the destination’s visibility in these markets.

Journalists Katie Solove and Steven Stuhlmacher from Washington, D.C., visited Foz do Iguassu in September to produce content highlighting the region’s ecotourism, gastronomy, and sustainability. The itinerary was organized by Visit Iguassu and validated by GVA, a destination marketing company that has been working to promote Foz do Iguassu in the U.S. and Canada.

The journalists visited some of the region’s top attractions, such as Iguassu Falls, Macuco Safari, Helisul Experience, Parque das Aves, the Three Borders Landmark, Yup Star, and Itaipu Binacional. The series will also include an interview at ICMBio, allowing the U.S. audience to grasp the grandeur of Iguassu National Park and the sustainable management within the conservation unit.

Foz’s diverse gastronomy will also be featured, with highlights from experiences at Sanma Hotel, Casa do Chef, Restaurant Y, and The Argentine Experience.

In total, eight episodes will air on ABC between October 14 and 18, marking a significant milestone for Iguassu by showcasing the city’s global relevance and the joint effort to attract more U.S. tourists to Iguassu Falls.

According to Jaime Mendes, President of Visit Iguassu, “This unprecedented coverage reinforces Iguassu Falls’s image as a destination that can attract international travelers, especially from the U.S. market, which increasingly recognizes the potential of ecotourism and the authentic experiences our region offers,” he added.

Initiatives in the U.S. Market

This initiative is part of a robust action plan developed by Iguassu Falls’s Integrated Tourism Management, in partnership with GVA, to solidify Iguassu as a key destination in the U.S. and Canadian markets. The strategy includes various promotional activities, such as membership in associations and Travel Networks, participation in international fairs and events, along with marketing campaigns and partnerships with tour operators and airlines.

The increased visibility is expected to significantly contribute to attracting more tourists from the U.S., which is already the second-largest source of international visitors to Brazil.

“The presence of Iguassu Falls on a high-reach network like ABC highlights our commitment to positioning the city as one of the top ecotourism and adventure travel destinations, not only in Latin America but also globally,” concluded Jaime.
