Ecotourism doesn’t have to mean extreme adventure. In Mato Grosso do Sul, outdoor experiences cater to travelers of all ages and adrenaline levels. From river tubing and zip lines to relaxing floating tours, boat rides, and horseback riding on traditional farms, the state offers a wide range of activities that combine nature, learning, and infrastructure suitable for families—including children, seniors, and those less accustomed to outdoor adventures.

Natural Aquarium

Floating in crystal-clear water as fish of all colors and sizes swim by is one of the most iconic experiences in Bonito. The float tour at the Natural Aquarium, along the Baía Bonita River, is ideal for beginners. The course is just 900 meters long, shallow, and includes a pool training session to ensure everyone feels confident using a snorkel. Plus, a support boat accompanies the route for those who prefer to stay dry. Children aged five and up can enjoy the float, while younger ones may join the boat ride with their guardians.

The site features full infrastructure for visitor convenience, including a restaurant, souvenir shop, changing rooms, restrooms, parking, and even a heated swimming pool.

Ecological Park Rio Formoso

Another destination offering unforgettable experiences for the whole family is the Ecological Park Rio Formoso, located 7 km from downtown Bonito. This park appeals to everyone with a variety of activities to suit all tastes and styles. Adventurous visitors can try boia-cross—floating down 1,200 meters of the Rio Formoso through eight rapids—or the Formoso Adventure circuit, which includes hiking, zip-lining, and a treetop canopy walk.

Those looking for a more relaxed experience can go horseback riding, hike a 2 km trail with a swim stop in the river, or simply unwind on lounge chairs and hammocks surrounding the crystal-clear Lagoa Formosa.

Estancia Mimosa

At Estancia Mimosa, a farm located 25 km from downtown Bonito, an accessible 2,450-meter round-trip trail leads to ten waterfalls and natural swimming pools—highlights for visitors of all ages. Guided groups of up to 14 people ensure personalized attention. The waterfalls are equipped with platforms, stairs with handrails, and support ropes to help children, seniors, and those with limited mobility navigate comfortably.

Children especially enjoy the waterfall swims, but there are other options as well. One is a horseback ride through the area with gentle horses, small groups of up to six people, and a knowledgeable guide. Another is birdwatching: 274 bird species have been recorded within the property. Young visitors can spot vividly colored and unique regional birds such as the red-capped cardinal and the fiery-shouldered parakeet—and of course, learn a lot during the five-hour excursion through the cerrado biome.

Ecological Lodges

In the Pantanal, the accommodation itself becomes a major attraction for all ages. The hotels in the region combine conservation efforts with experiential tourism and offer a wide range of nature activities that appeal to children, adults, and seniors alike.

At Fazenda San Francisco in Miranda, a standout family-friendly activity is the photo safari. Along Pantanal roads, native forests, and rice fields, visitors may encounter capybaras, deer, anteaters, and—if lucky—a jaguar. Other favorites among children include horseback rides and boat trips aboard a chalana, the traditional Pantanal vessel for navigating shallow waters. Along the tranquil shores, guests may spot herons, hawks, otters, and tapirs.

At the exclusive Caiman, also in Miranda, the high-end infrastructure ensures comfort without sacrificing immersion in nature. No intense hiking is required to enjoy the experiences: guests can take safaris in comfortable vehicles, participate in the Onçafari Project—which turns jaguar sightings into a genuine environmental education opportunity—or go on night safaris to spot ocelots, caimans, anteaters, and possibly jaguars in their natural habitat. It’s easy to enjoy quality family time with peace of mind: top-tier facilities, expert guides, inclusive meals, and customizable programs.
